At the north end of the Divide Mountains sit the three great peaks known as the Three Sisters, and the deep, shadowy valley between them.
Mazantsi, the highest, towers over the fortress of Balance's Retreat. Though her glaciers form the headwaters of the life-giving Flow River, she is a brutal mistress. Only the bravest or most foolish poachers hunting for the rarest mountain goat horns dare to venture up her slopes. Beneath her, however, the Deepiron Mine delves far into the heart of the earth as workmen haul loads of tin, silver and the exotic ore deepiron to the surface.
To the north, an endless train of domesticated yaks drag carts full of ore and charcoal up the slopes of Mantla, the smallest sister. Above the treeline is nestled the High Mountain Forge, an ancient foundry and smithy said to be touched by the gods themselves. Visiting journeymen are baffled by the logic of carrying ore up a mountain, yet the master craftsmen insist it is the only place to process deepiron into the lighter-than-steel but stronger-than-iron blades for which lords across all of Toprak pay small fortunes for.
Standing watch in the west is Entshona, home to the fabled Castle in the Sky, the traditional lord's manor of North Divide. The castle offers a view from the Blossomer sea, up the full length of the valley, and even catching sight of the sun glimmering off the palace spires in Flowrestown on a clear day - those who come with ill will must hope they have the pure strength to prevail, as they do not have the advantage of approaching unnoticed.
The Three Sisters do not offer an easy life for the denizens of North Divide, but those with the grit and resolve to weather the treacherous winters and endure the labor of mining and smithing are richly rewarded.
