The County of Montauban is bordered by the mountains of Ubent to the south-east and the Grandbell Forest of Woolton and Beziers to the west.
In the west of the region, the untamed forests are home to a few skilled trappers and hunters and provide game for the hunting parties of the local lords. While hunters across most of the continent wield simple bows, some of the hunters in these woods have taken to using crossbows of their own design, powered by steel prods which create much more force than the traditional wooden crossbow. These locally invented weapons are known as arbalests, and are carried by the local military, the Crossbowmen of the Deep Wood.
The central portion of the region is a verdant green plain, fed by the rivers and streams from the Ubent mountains. To the south, the rivers quicken as the land begins to rise into the foothills of the great mountains.
To the east lies Partora, a rich city of manufacturing and trade, whose peddlers and merchants sell their wares in Montauban and cross it to the lands of the Grandbell Forest beyond.
The innovation and trade created by the interplay of fertile farmland, woods, and nearness to the great city of Partora have allowed Montauban to grow into something more than a rural backwater - instead a large population of peasants has grown here, powering a large and productive local economy.
