Altar of Flames

Description

Above the harsh seas there stands a giant stronghold upon a high plateau. It is a massive wonder of black stone - eroded to smoothness by the winds of time - and granite.

Locals call this place the Chaos Temple, though its architects and purposes are lost to the ages. Many think it was indeed a temple, perhaps dedicated to some obscure deity characterised by the looming volcano that dwarfs even the Temple complex.

If so, these days the deity sleeps soundly, oblivious to the on-goings of the people who live at his feet. The Temple has long seen its last worshipper. Now the halls play host to the quarters and offices of nobility, the plazas and avenues thronged by the daily businesses of those who reside within the stronghold. Secular guards man the walls and the gatekeeper collects tolls more readily for the local administration than any religious entity.

Over this hubbub of activity the Temple and the Volcano endure, one a silent monument to a forgotten people, the other a dormant beast of uncertain wrath.

So the Chaos Temple has been for years uncounted, and so it will remain.
